If you’re the soon to be the proud owner of a new kitchen, or are planning a remodel in the near future, keep in mind that some cabinet and stone materials used in kitchen design require extra care. Almost all kitchen materials are durable and rarely fragile. It pays to fully understand the maintenance that will be required if you haven’t yet made these choices, or if you want to ensure that your choices look great for years to come.

Including cabinet and stone

Adding cabinet and stone materials in your kitchen will be necessary decisions that you need to make facing new construction for a kitchen remodel. Some materials are easier to care for in the long run than others. Solid wood cabinets will hold up better over time, and natural stone countertops will continue looking great with minimal maintenance.

Caring for stone countertops

The first and most important step to ensuring that your stone countertops continue looking great is to be sure that they are sealed by a professional when they’re installed. Also, be sure to protect them from excessive heat which can cause the stone to crack. Clean up any spills as soon as possible and if the countertop needs heavier cleaning, do so with warm soapy water and a cloth rag.

Caring for cabinets

You may have to look pretty closely, but even cabinets can develop dirt and buildup that requires occasional cleaning. The easiest way to bring them back to brand new would be to mix a half and half vinegar and warm water solution. Submerge a soft cloth in the solution and ring out excess water before using the cloth to wipe down the cabinets.

Undertaking a big kitchen remodel can deliver a significant return on investment to a homeowner. Experts recommend choosing cabinets made of hardwood that will last and decorated with pulls that will fit with an array of aesthetics and taste. Experts also suggest that going with granite or other stone countertop options continues to be the best bet for a great look kitchen design that stands the test of time and means more value for your home.
