Planning a kitchen makeover? Consider custom cabinetry in the space for a rich feel. Custom cabinets are a great way to get the exact cabinet look you want built to take advantage of every square-inch of your space. If you’re considering going the custom route, here’s what you expect from the process.

The custom cabinets consultation

A consultation to discuss your options for custom cabinets is likely the first step along the way in finding the perfect cabinets for your space. At this meeting arrive prepared to discuss styles that you like, a color palette that will work, extra features that you might hope to have, and the budget for the space. You might even start clipping images of cabinets that you like from magazines to give a better sense of your cabinet goals.

Measure twice cut once

Once you’ve talked over your goals and preferences with the cabinet company, they’ll schedule a time to come into your space to measure for the project. They’ll take measurements of any existing cabinetry and of the space itself. These measurements will be used to draw up your new space with your custom cabinets.

Understanding your custom cabinets quote

With your initial drawing of your custom cabinets, you’ll likely get a price range for the project too. This figure could change based on final changes to the cabinet plan. It will include the cost for materials, labor, and installation. There will also be an estimate for when your cabinets will be ready for installation and how long it's expected to take?

Caring for custom cabinets

To keep your custom cabinets looking great for years to come, just a little bit of maintenance is required. You should do basic cleaning a couple of times each month and be sure to wipe up any spills quickly. Also be sure to repair any scrapes or nicks as soon as they happen. Keep the cabinets in the shade, and avoid extremes in temperature as much as possible.
